Do you have a passion for engineering that interacts with the human body? Our practice-based Biomedical Engineering degree delves into mathematics, anatomy, physiology, and computing to prepare students for the rapid advancement of technology that is becoming an essential part of healthcare. You will have the opportunity to participate in exciting work placements in the Kurdistan Region throughout this programme.
Our unique Biomedical Engineering degree programme will prepare you to work in areas such as assistive technology, rehabilitation, medical imaging and robotics, physiology monitoring, cardiopulmonary engineering, m-health and e-health, orthopaedic implants, and regenerative medicine/ tissue engineering.
Biomedical engineering (also known as bioengineering) is an engineering discipline that works with the human body. You will be learning and applying innovative skills in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of medical equipment and devices ranging from newborns to the elderly. Practical workshops and labs led by industry professionals will help you improve your technical skills. This will allow you to connect'real-world' commercial innovations to the academic theory taught in the lectures. The knowledge you've gained will then allow you to work on exciting projects like designing prostheses or developing new medical technology for physicians and medical professionals to use in patient prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment.
Along with these technical skills, you will gain a wide range of transferable skills as an engineer, such as effective communication, leadership, the ability to critically assess gaps in target healthcare markets, and the tools needed to provide solutions to bridge those gaps.
